Gypsy Rose Blanchard is ready to share her story.
In the upcoming Lifetime docuseries The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard, the 32-year-old will detail the years of abuse she says she suffered at the hands of her mom Clauddine "Dee Dee" Blanchard. Gypsy and her former boyfriend were later sentenced to prison for their roles in her murder. The series will debut just one week after Gypsy is released after serving more than seven years behind bars.
"After a lifetime of silence, I finally get to use my voice to share my story and speak my truth," Gypsy herself says in the trailer for the docuseries. "As a survivor of relentless child abuse, this docuseries chronicles my quest for liberation and journey through self-discovery. I am unapologetically myself and unafraid to expose the hidden parts of my life that have never been revealed until now."
Lifetime said in a statement to E! News that its six-hour project features "unprecedented access" to Gypsy, which it described as a "victim of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy who suffered horrific abuse and made national headlines for her role in her mother's violent murder."
The docuseries features "Gypsy in prison on the eve of her parole hearing as she recounts her emotional journey of being forced to remain a child, held prisoner by her own mother and the unfathomable choice she made in order to survive." It'll also, per Lifetime, delve into her love life behind bars, following "the road to Gypsy's prison wedding" and introducing viewers to her fiancé Ryan.
Gypsy and her ex-boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn were arrested for Dee Dee's murder in 2015 after long after the 48-year-old's body was found at her Springfield, Mo., home. Gypsy, then 23, subsequently pleaded guilty to second degree murder in connection with her death and given a 10-year prison sentence, while Nicholas was found guilty of first-degree murder and is currently serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
During Nicholas's trial, Gypsy had testified that Dee Dee kept her largely isolated from the outside world, made her use a wheelchair, forced her to undergo unnecessary medical treatments and told the public that she was disabled. She also testified that her mother controlled and abused her physically.
Gypsy also admitted in her testimony that it was her idea to kill Dee Dee. "I wanted to be free of her hold on me," she said, per St. Louis TV station KSDK. "I talked him into it."
As for Nicholas, he told ABC's 20/20 in 2018 he "did what I did" because he loved Gypsy. "I really wanted a life with her, I really did," he said from jail. "[Gypsy] comforted me about it. I prayed once I got here. I tried to get her mother's soul to forgive me."
Episodes of The Prison Confessions of Gypsy Rose Blanchard will air on Lifetime Jan. 5, 6 and 7 at 8pm ET/PT.
